Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
