A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays

The winter break present a wealth of pursuits far superior than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and using deep breathing to avoid arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items came out over the holidays, and should you overlooked any, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
